B-B-B-BEAR!!!! Russian River, AK

This morning the Russian River offered up another half dozen salmon and one bear sighting just as we were packing up what little tackle the river had not claimed from us today.  The small black bear emerged from the woods onto the bank across the river and downstream about 25 yards.  The wildlife guys who had stop to say good morning as we were packing up said it was about 1-year old.  After checking out the offerings of the river and snatching a salmon, the bear quickly scampered back into the woods on the far side of the river which allowed to Kat resuscitated her heart and resumed breathing.

Prior to the bear sighting, fishing was good.  Although there was one nasty encounter with the aforementioned river rockfish.  While attempting to help Kat undo a snag, I stepped on to a rock which turned out to actually be a river rockfish.  As I was perched precariously on top, it suddenly rolled over—tossing me onto my ass in the river—and disappeared downstream in search of more tackle.  This just goes to show how indistinguishable from ‘real’ rocks their camouflage makes them.

After a great morning of fishing , we packed up and headed down the Kenai Peninsula to Homer under bright blue skies which provided absolutely fantastic scenery.  The night was spent out on the Homer Spit with one of the best views right from the stateroom of the motorhome.
